On Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June, as part of the Attingham Park celebration of the restoration of the  of the herbaceous garden, Shropshire Flower Clubs were invited to create displays on the west colonnade of the mansion.

Well Saturday dawned – I would love to say bright and sunny – but that wasn’t to be. The BBC weather reports gave a warning for floods and thunderstorms! Thankfully Friday stayed fine for the gardeners to cut the flowers.

Despite the rain the flower clubs made it to Attingham, quickly re-arranged the seating to keep the audience dry, and with a smile launched the Attingham in Bloom weekend in grand style with their arrangements. On Sunday the rain stopped and the sun even put in an appearance occasionally.

The clubs demonstrated their skills interpreting Attingham in Bloom to create a display using the bucket of garden flowers presented to them on the day.

Shrewsbury Flower Club added the sixth and final arrangement completing the exhibition along the west colonnade.  Jane used her own stand for the lovely white delphiniums, delicate pink peony “Sarah Bernhardt”,  Dutch iris “Hildegarde” and alliums together with fillers of sweet william, herbs, foxgloves, alchemilla mollis, ammi & nigella; this beside a low table bowl of peonies, herbs and nigella. Stunning, thank you Jane!

We had a lovely weekend of flower arranging, relaxed and friendly and in the splendid setting of Attingham Park.  One or two made the most of their day with afternoon tea too! What could be better?
